About
HUNTER HAYES is a name synonumous with New Jersey, born in the town of Montclair. First I would like to answer the questions that people always ask about Hunter Hayes…. Where are you from? Where have you been all this time? And why have We not heard of you!…. YOU should be a big star! The fact is, I’ve been there and done that. In 1974, I was there on the show at Symphony Hall with” Kool & the Gang”, the “Stylistics”, The “Manhattans” and the “Chi-Lites”.
I was signed to De-Lite records back when I was 20 years old. I was in Billboard magazine. Then I went solo in 1986/87, Got Signed to Island records with Bob Marley and Grace Jones. That’s when I had Two very good club records that played on New York radio and climbed high on the Billboard dance charts. The songs were, “This Time” and “Are You Wid It”. Also club artists like Colonel Abrams, Jocelyn Brown, Marshall Jefferson, D-Train Williams and Gwen Guthrie Plus…. all the Famous House DJ’s and I were close Friends. That includes Tony Humphries, Merlin Bob, Naeem Johnson and Larry Levan. I appeared at The Pardise Garage twice, Bentleys, the Down Under and the Red Parrott in New York City. Also I appeared at Club Zanzibar,Club America, Sensations and Club 88′ in New Jersey. I’ve had records played on WBLS / 98.7, Kiss / Hot 97/ WWRL. I did pretty well., In all I’ve recorded over 150 singles and 17 albums and been around the world. and on TV.
Finally in 1990 I got signed to Columbia records. It was a great feeling at first but they wouldn’t let me write my own songs! I felt That was a big mistake and a bigger let down. The songs they wrote for me were terrible and had nothing to do with my real life. The records flopped Big Time, so they let me go, believe it or not I was happy, even relieved ,though I had to start all over again.
That’s when I decided to handle my own career and write my own songs. I also had to go back to
driving trucks and singing in local night clubs. With a lot of help from heaven, and inspiration from the late Mary Harris of the “Peppermint Lounge” I was able to write the Greatest song of my career, and that song is …. “SPANISH LOVE SONG “…. We actually sent this song to Tony Bennett but he turned it down. So I emptied my savings and recorded the song myself. That, along with 10 other original songs, can be found on my New CD “It’s a Wonderful Life”. the album can be brought on CDbaby.com and also i tunes. I’m in a good place now. I’ve Got New Songs, New Look, New Show, New Love, New Spiritual Commitment!
Now “YOU” can sing the songs that I’ve written. And where ever someone needs a good song to be sung from the heart …I pray that I’m well enough to be there for you.
